On August 28th and 29th, your Tennessee Chapter of HIMSS hosted the 10th Summit of the Southeast at the Music City Center in downtown Nashville.  This year’s Summit was the second time we partnered with Health:Further.

HCA, PYA and Waller were the primary event sponsors, which also included 21 other event sponsors.  There were a total of 15 content, marketing, clinician and community sponsors including the Tennessee Chapter of HIMSS and the Tennessee Chapter of HFMA.  Finally, the Nashville Health Care Council participated as sponsoring organization.

By all accounts, it was a great event, with many positive comments from attendees, sponsors, panelists and moderators.  We are in the process of finalizing registration numbers, attendance numbers and session survey results with the Health:Further leadership.  Details on these items will follow in a subsequent post.

The Summit of the Southeast stage included 10 session events – 4 individual presentations, 2 fireside chats and 4 panels.  A total of 28 individuals participated as speakers, moderators or panelists – discussing a broad range of topics including innovation models, analytics, cybersecurity, blockchain, interoperability, workforce and leadership.

I was able to attend all 10 sessions on the Summit stage and was thoroughly engaged and impressed by each session.  The sessions were designed to be approximately 55 minutes in length with questions and answer sessions where time permitted.   Our speakers were leaders in their respective areas, were enthusiastic in approach and provided practical solutions to those in attendance.

Big thanks go out to our leadership and program team, including:

  • Tiffany Madigan – Executive Director
  • Tommy Lewis – Past President
  • Tom Mitchell – VP of Marketing
  • Jennifer Lemiuex – VP of Programs
  • Robbie Morris – VP of SOSE

In addition, many of our Board members were in attendance, with several members of our Ambassador team, assisting where needed.  Many thanks to all of you in attendance.

In an era of too many choices, too little time and the desire for an enhanced experience – it’s important for us to assess our event in the future.  Our industry is rapidly changing, fueled by exponential changes in information technology, medical innovation and new models of care.  I’ve never been as excited about the contribution information and technology will have on our biggest challenges – access, cost, quality and safety.  With these accelerated changes in mind, your assessment and member voices will be important considerations for our future plans.

I would like you to email Tiffany and I (tiffany@tnhimss.org and ethrailkill@amsurg.com) with your assessment of the Summit of the Southeast 2018 and your input for this event next year.  Please provide your criticisms and suggestions for what we can do better (along with what worked well!) – it’s important to have your honest input.

I look forward to getting to know our new members, working with our TN HIMSS Board of Directors and Ambassadors, as we plan for the future.

Thanks!

Eric Thrailkill

President – TN HIMSS
